Over the course of the semester, I have strengthened and developed my reporting and writing skills by learning how to interview effectively and write with clarity and accuracy.
One of my stories was about the boys’ tennis coach’s retirement. This was my first solo story and one of my first feature stories, and it required many interviews. Some these interviews were very difficult for me to get. At first, I didn’t know how to get ahold of the tennis coach; however, I reached out to many people and was eventually, able to get ahold of him. In the end, this story consisted of six different interviews.
Ultimately, writing this feature story taught me how to be persistent, resourceful and thoughtful in my reporting and I’m glad that I was able to publish a story I was really proud of.
